Kendra Gayle Bowman is a general surgery resident at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, an Arthur Tracy Cabot Fellow at the Center for Surgery and Public Health, an AAUW American Fellow and a US Fulbright Scholar. Her research focuses on the surgical capacity of district hospitals in Zambia and the prevalence of reconstructive surgical conditions. She is currently leading a nation-wide study in Zambia in collaboration with the Minsitry of Health and faculty at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka. This study addresses questions about the ability of hospitals to provide emergency and essential surgical and obstetric care as well as the epidemiology of surgical conditions. The findings will be used to develop tailored interventions to meet the needs in infrastructure, training and supply chain. |
